I have been working nights this weekend. Sucks. Hopefully I will get out Monday afternoon. And I will certainly be out Tuesday. Hurricane Kyle can blow me! Haha. What a terrible joke. It was a long night time to go to bed.

Got out two nights so far and discovered I am not all that excited about tree stands. So last night at dusk, I quietly removed my tree stand and built a ground blind (well, as quiet as I could). On the way out of my stand (about 200 yards from my apples) I was busted by a deer. It was too dark to see what it was. I hope scaring it like that does't put the deer off the apples in the evening. If it does, I could have ruined my spot!

Hey biggame, I hunt from ground blinds because I am mortified of heights. Nothing wrong with that at all. I have been working on the height problem but it is slow going. Anyway, only have to get work done for today and then I have the weekend off. I can't wait.

I am not too bad in hang on tree stands when up in them and harnessed in, but climbing in them (with tree steps) and before I get my harnessed strapped to the tree, I am very nervous.
I just bought a new ladder stand (I haven't hooked it up yet thought). Noluck, you should try these, they are much easier to get into and looking down and seeing the ladder actually touching the gound makes me feel a little less wobbly. Much more comfortable for people afraid of heights IMO.

I'm not a real big fan of tree stands either. I'd rather be om the ground. I just have a hard time sitting for long time bacause of my back injury. That being said I own a small tree stand and use screw in strps to get into it. I have also just today picked up a "delux tree stand" fro CTire.
I'm gonna get it out of the car now. Bought it because a friend want to try baiting bears this year and we just put in a bait up on his mountain propertiy. Ther are bears around and last year he seen the biggest bear of his life at the "fishing hole"
So we have my little one up now and I'm gonna put the lader satnd up so he can get in and out. He had a fall last week (about 12 feet) checking one of the old tree platforms and broke some ribs, bruised his kidneys and partically colasped one lung. Lucky man IMO.

I think the screw in tress steps are very dangerous. I mean I am calling the kettle black because I have used them for one reason, they hide your stand better. But they are way too vertical, move when you step on them sometime, and are just plain uncomfortable. I think I used them this week for the last time. I am either using ladder stands, or I'll be making a ladder for the hanging stand.

Yup, ladder stand here as well. You dont bounce so well after 40ish I have a 17ft but leave one section out still has me up about 13ft, plenty high- for the advantage, stable and comfy. easy set-up and climbing!

I was wondering if anyone has been hearing stories of 'deer with arrows sticking out of them' in 2A so far? Someone mentioned to me today that they have been told there are six or seven running around Mahone Bay.

I haven't heard anything but .........
practice and more practice are the best way to minimize such occurrences.
It always bothers me to see some one posting on a hunting site
"how can a get a bow course, I borrowed a bow from my buddy"

But they are way too vertical, move when you step on them sometime, and are just plain uncomfortable. . BG, When the steps are screwed ALL the way in so the heel of them is solid aginst the tree trunk they will not move. If they are not in all the way they will turn when pulled and bend til heel touches tree with wieght on them. Boy you guys wouldn't like some of my stands...lol Have a look at some of the strap on climbing sticks maybe. Pickin up my deer license this morning. Somethin to fill the mornings.

I was back this morning in my hunting spot. It is on our property and I have been hunting there for the last 8 years. It is next to gravel pit that has been inactive for the last 12 years. 2 weeks ago they started crushing rock again! I have been listening to them in the mornings and evenings to see when they start and stop. I know that the deer are still moving through but I think they are going nocturnal. Anyway the workers have been starting around 9am, which I thought was kind of late. This morning I'm sitting watching the sun come up over the horizon and here comes a truck at ten to seven! Oh well, they haven't been working on the weekends.
kpr if the stands are higher then 5' forget it! I thought I was up high one time that I actually had it setup but once I got stuck I just lowered myself down over the edge. My feet touched and i'm not that tall.

I received my certification last year and shot my first deer with a bow yesterday morning at 10;30 .It was an incredible experience .It was a medium size doe .She went 100 yards and folded up .I am hooked on this type of hunting now . Incredible is all I can say .
