I use carbon arrows with my PSE, I have heard that sometimes they break when firing injuring the shooter. The majority of ones that have broken on me have broken at the shaft label (fwd end of label), some with no apparent reason for breaking, others have split from hits on nocks. Given the small piece left at end of shaft, if this was to break while releasing I can imagine some ugly results to my left forearm. Has anyone else heard about this or experienced it with carbons?

We had a fellow last summer at the BANS BANG-UP who had one explode on him. It was during one of the novelty shoots and it had been hit by another arrow. The arrow was not checked before the next time it was shot and upon release it just blew all to pieces. If I remember, it was just before the fletch. Anyway after some coaxing we convinced him to go to out patients at the local hospital. After several x-rays and some digging with the tweezers the doctor was 90% sure he got all the splinters out. FYI Carbon splinters DO NOT show up on x-rays. He returned the next day to finish off the weekend.

Bet that was nasty... When hit on the nock I can see the splintering as it looked to me they drove the nock inside the shaft.(Easy to see) The ones that broke at the label tho. looked as though they had been cut with a pair of scissors, leaving the nock, fletching and about three or four inches of shaft. Hate to think of the mess that would make if it let go upon release. One arrow I had given the once over immediately prior to it coming apart. I practice on hay and during the summer after the hay got wet it generated enough heat that my arrows were warm when they came out of it...I wondered if this may contribute to it...not hot, but markedly warm. Been considering a guard for my arm because of this plus I found my raingear interferes with the string as well.
