Have you seen bats out recently flying in the daytime? If you have NS Department of Natural Resources would like to know about your sightings. Recently White-Nose Syndrome (caused by the fungus Geomyces destructans) was found in Nova Scotia bat populations. This causes them to come out of their hibernation state and burn excessive energy to keep warm. As a result they are often seen flying during the day and as a result they often perish of starvation. You can help! Reporting sightings of day flying bats will help NSDNR and academic researchers track the impact of White-Nose Syndrome in our province. Find your local office at this link: www.gov.ns.ca/natr/staffdir/offices.asp
