From the Federation website: Sunday Hunting - Government Position Dec-04-2011:
The Minister of Natural Resources, Charlie Parker, has responded on behalf of the Premier to our question of where the Government stood on the issue of Sunday Hunting. He stated:
“Although hunting is a very safe activity, many members of the non-hunting public are reluctant to walk or use the woods during the fall, particularly during the deer hunting season. Non-hunters and hunters alike have a stake in the stewardship of wildlife and entitlement to access Nova Scotia's forested lands and other wildlife habitats.
In order to minimize conflicts and balance our approaches to accommodate both hunters and non-hunters alike, Sunday hunting is not being considered by the Province of Nova Scotia at this time”

Personally, I think his response is perpetuating the myth that it is unsafe for non-hunters to be in the woods during hunting season.
"...stake in stewardship"...? They don't pay-to-play like hunters have to. They have no stake in it. They take...they make demands...but, for the most part, they don't contribute.
"accomodate both hunter and non-hunters alike"... They get a day all to themselves during hunting season + they can go to the woods 365 days a year, if they so choose + they don't need special training, or need to carry the basic survival items + during the season(s), they are not mandated to wear hunter orange when they are in wildlife habitat...etc., etc.
If it was an actual matter of safety?...they'd need to be as equipped as we are when they enter a wildlife habitat.
It's a myth...and Charlie's response is an excuse...not a reason...IMHO.

I remember reading journals and documents from some of the early colonists and they used to hunt during sundays. In fact it was accepted that after church heading out for a shoot. The big problem there was what they went out to hunt. Anyway I would love to hunt on sundays but the majority of the vote is very Conservative when it comes to certain things and this is one of them. Like the bunch that railed against sunday shopping, now look at them all out buying christmas gifts on sundays! One day Nova Scotia will be hauled into the 20th century.

not surprising . I have said all along that hunters as a group need to educate the public. Attendance at shows, school presentations etc to familiarize the non hunting people. Associations should be marketing the product and the product is us.
