Not really an experiment per se,just an observation.
My old target had long expired but I just hadn't gotten around to getting a new one,which I finally did last week.It's a Monsens and works good,once you figure out the trick to getting the arrows back out
Anyway,my target arrows are mostly carbon fury's with a few beman ics bowhunters thrown in as well.
With my set up,the carbon fury's come in at about 453 gr and the bowhunters at about 385.
Shot from a PSE Brute set at 60# with a 29" dl at a distance of 30 yds,the carbon fury's would penetrate the target and leave about an inch sticking out the back.The bowhunters wouldn't penetrate and from measuring the front side,were about an inch from doing so.
Quite a difference from only 68 gr variation when giving thought to the effect of lighter vs heavier arrows.
On the other hand,the bowhunters have significantly less drop from 30-40 yds as compared to the carbon fury's so would be better if one was to mis-judge distance slightly.Aside from that benefit,I think I'd lean toward the heavy side for a hunting set up.

yes, there is a difference between speed -kinetic energy (used to sell bows) and momentum, which is effort to stop the movement of an object in motion.

One other consideration is the diameter of the arrows. carbon arrows react differently on impact than an aluminum or wood arrow, There are some good videos on u-tube showing an arrow in slo-mo on impact.
I have seen them, but don't have the links - they can be searched for though.

Now there's something I never expected here-a response.I was staring to think compound owners were pariahs ;D
