I have a bunch of ash trees that will be coming down on my property...as soon as I can get the lead out of me butt to do it! ;D Some will be 14-16" stump, and they have very straight, clear sections. What kind of bow does ash make?...is it worth the effort to save it for staves? I had thought of dropping it...cutting the straight sections to about 7 ft...and then splitting it to let it naturally dry. Right thing to do? Are the larger trees the ones I should concentrate on?...or would the 6-8" dia. trees be the best? Bob

Ash makes a decent bow they sometimes take a bit more string follow than other hardwwods, the smaller tree the easier to work with but if the the big ones have some nice tight growth rings in the sap wood they would do also. Should be interesting trying to split staves out of them. And you will definately get some nice arrows out of them if you cut some 36" chunks. feel free to drop some off in PDG next time up home

Thanks, Arrow Slinger... It's been awhile since I was down Isle Madame way, and don't foresee me getting there any time soon. I do hope to get to the Bangup...and if I get them down, I'll bring some up for ya. Gettin' them down may be a little time away yet, too. Do you want the big stuff, or the smaller, and how much?...otherwise she's gonna be firewood. Like I said, I'm not sure I'll make it to the Bangup, but I'll get it arranged to get to ya. Bob
