Nova Scotian hunters hungry to stock their freezers with moose meat can put their names in for a coveted moose-hunting licence, beginning today at 5 p.m.
This year, 325 licences will be available for hunting in Victoria and Inverness counties, the province announced Thursday.
Applicants must choose one of four zones and one of three seasons in which to hunt, the release states.
Season 1 is Sept. 27-Oct. 2, season 2 will be Oct. 4-Oct. 9 and the third season, which is limited to Zone 1, will be Dec. 14-16.
The province advises hopeful hunters to consider weather, terrain, access and available guiding services when deciding which zone to apply for. Last year more than 10,000 people entered the draw.
Applications will be accepted until midnight on June 13. Registration can be done by phoning 1-900-565-3337 or online at www.hmcgroup.ca/moosedraw.
Phone applicants must have their wildlife resources card number ready when calling. Phone and online applications will be charged a $7.11 fee.
Applications may also be mailed in with a fee of $11.86 to Moose Draw, Wildlife Division, 136 Exhibition St., Kentville, N.S., B4N 4E5.
Winners will be notified by mail shortly after the draw takes place at 11 a.m., June 24, at the Baddeck firehall.
Detailed information on the Cape Breton moose hunt is available at department offices and online at www.gov.ns.ca/natr.
