Here is the question, what age would be the best age to introduce a youngster into bow hunting. I know what the law is at this point in time regarding hunting and the young ones. Should the age be lowered for small game and youth who wish to use bows . I know that a lot of this equation could be directly related to the individual youth,as some would be more interested than others. Why can't it be brought up that say 8-14 they can bow hunt rabbits with adult supervision. My plan is to take my young fellow out this year while I go bow hunting for deer ,and no I don't expect to get a shot at anything as long as he's with me. Figure that we will both have fun and learn something more about each other. Would something like this be worth fighting for,and maybe increase both the population of hunters in this province as well as the number of bow hunters. Start them young ,get them interested and maybe just maybe they will either stick with it or come back tho it as adults. Everybody always says that youth is the future, but I don't seem to see a hole lot of promoting the youth. Other states and provinces have lower age restrictions, is there anything that can done along these lines to lower the age in this province?

There is no law that states an age that a youth can accompany a hunter, just if he is hunting himself ie carrying a bow or firearm.
By the By - I have an silent orange hunting vest that will fit. I promise it won't keep him silent, but the vest itself is quiet in the woods. ... lol
Can't wait to see him "stalk" again - just was a hoot in New Minas

I think that supervision is the key. If we are teaching a young person to hunt, I think as adults we should be aware if he/she is capable of handling the responsibility that is asscoiated with discharging a firearm of any type. Myself if I was going to take a young person hunting for the first time I would certainly feel safe hunting alongside them first. I would also be willing to assume responsibilty for any of there actions while hunting with me. I know two young fellas, 14 & 5, the 14 yr old has been ready for a while now(IMO) and the 5yr old is certainly, gung ho but requires some refining.
I think young people hunting is a great idea, and an apprenticeship approach would be best.
