Well, the bear season started on Monday and in a week the deer season starts for us. I am afraid for what will happen down here this year so my plan is get out arrow my 2 deer and get out of the woods until after rifle season. There is quite a bit of confusion going on over the bonus tag thing, most people are telling me that they can shoot their deer and then get the bonus tag and use it then. But the truth is you have to apply for it in person at a local DNR office. I have also heard conflicting stories about the order in which you can use the tags once you have them. I spoke to DNR in Milton and they told me that I have to use my normal tag first and then my bonus tag but a buddy of mine said that in Lunenburg he was told he could tag the bonus doe first and then use his normal tag anywhere in the province. All I know is I will have 2 does arrowed and out of the woods long before anyone rifle hunters show up. (Although I said this last year as well and surprise someone was rifle hunting (assumed on my part) on the hill behind me a full week before the rifle season actually started, too many crows around the next day not to be a fresh kill but I didn't feel like snooping around on someone elses property).
Anyway, is anyone here planning on making a special trip down here (2A) this year just to take advantage of the bonus tag? I am just curious to see what is going on. When you think about the economic spin offs and extra money it can bring to this area it is cool, but when you think about when the rifle season rolls around I think about all the butt heads who are coming to kill everything they see. Also I was just thinking what do those guys who kill as many deer as they can see do with all that deer meat? We don't eat beef so if we don't get any deer meat we don't eat much meat other then the chickens that we raise.
Anyway, you got one week to practice for deer and then get at it! Have a fun and safe season and good luck.
