Did anyone else hear that Newfoundland has just passed legislation allowing people to hunt on Sundays for the caribou and moose seasons? The radio station Q104 in Halifax did a poll on Friday to see if Sunday hunting should be allowed here in NS and 87% of callers agreed that it's an idea whose time has come. How do the members of this site feel on this issue and do you think it would be worth pursuing as a group?

As a hunter I can see why most of us would like to have Sunday hunting. At the same time I know of some wood lot owners who like the idea of having one day a week during the fall where they can go in the woods without having to share the woods with us. Guess that makes me kind of nutral at this time.

Are we talking about rifle hunting or just bow? Good to see you join us pirate. Oh, please don't talk about shopping in the same sentence. How can we hunt on sundays if we have to work?

I respect the right of everyone being able to enjoy the outdoors...more so for the people that work in the woods but I think our season is short. They can wear orange if they choose. I am lucky enough to work one week on and one week off, I would go nuts if I only had one day a week for hunting. Really when you compare it to the rest of the year...there's plenty of Sundays for them. Think it's an old rule that needs review. I'll vote yes to Sunday hunting.

I would love to hunt on Sunday, bow or rifle. You got my vote. We'll have to bring it up at the AGM.

I used to think that there was no need for another day of hunting but after this season and only being able to get out once a week I REALLY would like to see sunday hunting here. litekpr, you said that our season is to short. Are you serious????Our season is more than long enough.Deer season is about 2 1/2 months long if you hunt with both bow and gun. That is more than enough time to do some hunting.Gun hunters get just over a month. That to is plenty of time to do some hunting. If you look at all the hunting that can be done in NS,you can hunt 365 days a year excluding sundays. Our seasons are more than long enough and anyone who thinks they are to short is just short of crazy. You can hunt from early Sept through till March for different game. That isn't long enough? ??

Camel, My wording was a little vague. What I meant is that the season(big game) is short in comparison to the amount of days non-hunters have compared to us, also if I had to work weekdays, every week and only Saturdays for hunting which no doubt would interfere with other things, well...thats not many days. Not quite crazy...but...if I could spend everyday hunting I would, very much part of my everyday now. ;D I think the rule is kinda religously based and not from a management stand point, if people wish to be in the woods during hunting season the should wear orange, have to have a habitat stamp the same as us, as well a basic knowledge of the woods the same as us.IE: a knowledge of differant seasons and snares(dogs) among the list. Paying for a habitat stamp helps preserve what they are enjoying as well, maybe they could chip in a little. KPR
