I resolve that...
BANS put fwd a motion to the Federation to start working on the Govt and Native leaders to STOP the mess happening in the highlands. It is a blackeye on ALL hunters of Nova Scotia to allow it to continue. I would like nothing more than to see BANS pushing for this to happen as we should be seen as concerned about conservation no matter if it is slugs in a swamp or moose in the highlands.
I will state clearly and emphatically (before it gets twisted)that this has absolutely nothing to with race colour or creed simply CONSERVATION of a herd, ethical hunting practices and just plain common sense. I realize the race card can be played on this issue very easily but that needs to be nipped in the bud right off the mark. THAT ISN'T WHAT IT IS ABOUT, nor, IS IT ABOUT ANY SELF GAIN!
IT's ABOUT A SLAUGHTER happening on a mountain near you RIGHT NOW!
John, I don't want to debate this. I know where you stand and what your reasoning is behind it, I've read it. What is happening is wrong, there is no right to it. No matter what or who says, things can be changed...IF...someone speaks up loud enough.
Enough waiting....moose are dying.

Where as hunter numbers are in decline
and where as the number of Senior hunters is also in decline
and where as Anterless Deer tags quotas have gone up in applicable zones over the last couple years
and where as DNR currently gives hunters over 65 years of age free hunting licenses.
.
Therefor be it resolved that, DNR make available free Anterless Deer tags to eligible hunters over 65 years of age simply be picking them up at local DNR offices.

Where as, there is a current program in place which promotes youth involvement in hunting.
and where as, both DNR and conservation groups encourage youth involvement in hunting.
and where as, the current deer licensing system can be restrictive to youth having a successful season.
and where as , youth age 16-18 must hunt while in the accompaniment of an adult 18 or older at all times.
There fore be it resolved that, DNR establish a new and distinct deer license for dependent youth age 16-18 years of age, which would allow them to harvest either a buck or an anterless deer using this new youth license for dependent children.

How about a seperate higher percentage draw for seniors and youth based on the deer numbers of the years?
Either way I think this a good idea for both seniors and youth.
I cannot attend the meeting but if I can...
VIA the net, I raise my hand in support of both PS's resolutions.

Well, folks missed a nice chat with Mike Polard about the workings, objectives and directions the Federation is taking on some key issues.
Unfortunately, we did not have a quorum of 15 members, but we had some intering non members from this site. It was great to meet them and to chat about BANS, the Federation and several points of interest along the way.
We now have to call another meeting as our resolutions must be passed by a majority of attending members at a meeting where quorum is met. SI keep sending in ideas for resolutions !
I expect the meetig will be Dec 7 or 14. Time and location will be announced this week when finalized.

He explained that the Federation is well aware of what's happening in the Highlands and talked about different scenarios there and approaches. He explained his feelings about DNR and the job they are doing managing various wildlife species and what his approach is about that. He explained that his success will be tied to numbers of folks he represents and he needs numbers. He would like to see everyone that buys a license have to belong to the conservation group of their choice in order to get that license. He answered everyone's questions frankly and to the point. He certainly educated folks that thought the Federation was a scapegoat or afraid of standing up tp various government agencies and clearly showed that various government agencies are not in the same book, let alone on the same page.
I am asking him to attend the next one as well.
Talked to a few folks and we are going to do the 14th as it the firat weekend after the end of the late bow season. I will confirm a venue today or tomorrow. Hopefully you can bounce your schedule around or take a vacation day or something.

I resolve that:
The Doe tag issues be looked at again, people recieving antlerless tags are not using them to help control the herd size!
- Anyone applying for and recieving an antlerless tag shall only harvest antlerless deer;
- Or; offer an over the counter sustenance license that is only good for harvesting antlerless deer for food at a reduced cost.
- In areas with a healthy herd, after harvesting and registering an antlerless deer you may apply to your local DNR for a limited number of BONUS Buck tags ( such as zone 4 )
- Zone 2A basically the same; but (2) registered Antlerless deer will entitle you to apply for a BONUS Buck tag.
This way trophy hunters will have to work for their prize and do their part in conservation or take their chances with only purchasing an over the counter license, and the meat hunters will all be offered the chance to fill their freezer.

So once again ...I am guarding the coast/fishers Is it possible for my support for these resolutions to be voiced on my behalf in my abscence? IE...when you ask for a raise of hands someone puts their hand up for me and it counts. I see these resolutions before me and understand what is being said. Unless there is MAJOR change to them...AS IS...I support them.
