A question on Kpr's comment about green bins, etc... We register bait sites so DNR knows the where abouts of hunters early in the season?right? but does DNR go around and inspect the sites to monitor bait being used and litter?
The sight I used this year was previously baited with bags of garbage from Tim Hortons dumpsters, I took 3 bags of black bags and coffee grind packets out before I set up. (It is private land and I had permission to be there)
Is there anything in the wildlife act that covers this? other than a basic littering fine for crown land?
All portable baiting aids (small buckets/tubs/bags etc) should be removed from sight by a designated time or fines imposed on the registered user.

I've heard that IF they visit your site they leave a notice. Plus the registration of sites is to monitor who is where and when with bait before the deer season. I used to use exclusively apples and oil. Pretty sure if I had the buggy loaded with apples and a rifle and I was 15km from home and my site is usually within 1.5km from the house.....I'd probably have some explainin' to do. Now I chuck a bag of doughnuts on board and all is okay...lol/j/k

The law already states that bait must be removed and cleaned up the last day of the season. But the use of bait diring the General Open season is allowed with permision of the landowner. U don't see a requirement there to clean up the bait sites.
But, you'd think that people that hunters would be mature and care about the environment enough "to leave no trace".
SURE, in a perfect world. We need more enfoorcement officers and more money put in enforcement - perhaps even a "Hunters on Patrol" effort like the citizen's on patrol as is done now.

hey good to see some talk on the bear situation(s). Another issue that neds addressed is they way every separate dnr office operates...again with respect to bears.....and baiting regulations. thye need to tighten the rules up and all depots need to be operating under the same rules...like I said before..imagine if each depot was given out and setting their own rules for whitetails...!! but there again that brings us back to bears being a second rate critter here in NS...altho they shouldn't be.
One other point...altho my resolution will never pass at the FED ( not that we need their approval before approaching dnr - we can bring anything forward we wish- they won't like it-but so what) even it JUST being brought up there will create some awareness to the situation.
Time permitting, I'll try and make it to the meeting tommorrow.....but my Dad's way sick...we'll see....should be a good discussion in any event.

Yup , that #s in the cell phone, kinda curious as to how many calls they get a year or are most people afraid to use it and get involved? Suppose it depends on the area you live in and chances of retaliation!

BEA, I think you may be reffering to the postions of sites given and using differant methods? Here at our loal office they accept a hand drawn map + a pinpoint on their map...I find that pretty easy to do. I also have a GPS, they are happy to get a waypoint in Latitude and Longitude. I have seen others on NSH and Gundogs had to give them coords in some other form...not sure the name of it but the numbers were all whacky(Greek) to me, that said being a boat person I have learned all mine in Lat and Long, most anything like Geocaching is done in Lat/Long...it's kinda a universal method and should stay that way...Lat./Long.(not everyone owns a GPS though)

One thing I have learned in my short time doing this is ......
Yes sometimes the different offices are run a bit differently this has to do with IMO
1 the location , each office deals with zone spacific issues. What is a concern in Bible Hill most likely won't be the same in Bridgewater.
2 staff. all staff deal with the locl issues differently
Is this right I don't know....

The COP program is entirely non confrontational. Cirizens brive the roads and report anything sus[picious via radio to the RCMP. They may take pics of license plates, etc - but do not put them selves in any situations. The RCMP will then check it out and track the number of suspicious occurrences in given areas and step up patrols, etc.
