It was suggested earlier in this thread that starting in grade 11 prospective sutdent archers in the school system be shown how to and make and handle their own bows then in grade 12 that they should be able to then get into the compound hi-tech bows.
When archery was introduced in the school in my area it was for grade 11 and 12 students only. What happens here is you loose 50% or more of your student archers every year therefory you just build up the knowledge base and you end up loosing it. If you wnat to try it this way be my guest but utter pleasure at what they acheive and utter disgust when they have to leave for University will befall you.
We learned the hard way to get them into archery as young as possible 11-12 years old) and nurture their talent individually till, when they do leave and they eventually will, you will feel better for having helped them in much more than archery. They will have attained life skills and concentration methods which will help them throughout their lives.

I think 9-12 is a good age - they can show their skill levels and gain confidence. Tehn after the teenage other sex fixations they may come back or get involved in mixed shoots ... Like riding a bicycle - once trad archery is learned it is not forgotten, The foundation is ther if the want to got high tech and when they want to come back - they will still hve the basics.

I don't think its a trad archery thing, but it may cost less to get started that way.
