I was looking at something on another site today and found a link to the Nova Scotia 2007 Winter Games team site. There are some where around 213 athletes, plus coaches and support staff, going to Whitehorse in Feb to compete for Gold.
One of the categories these folks will be competing in is ARCHERY. There are 6 archers from our province going to represent us. Of these 6 I have had the personal privilege of meeting 3.
#1 Rhiannon Wyatt
I have had the opportunity to watch this young lady at a couple of the Fita events and a 3d at St Mary's a couple summers. ago. She is the daughter of Sean Wyatt another skilled target archer in NS. This young lady has the skill and the personal class to be a champion.
#2 Shane Rafuse
I have seen Shane at several events around the province the last couple of years. He has proven to be a very skilled archer. Shane has competed and trained for his place on the team and deserves to be there. Shane has also been a successful bowhunter something he has written about and shared pictures and stories about.
#3 Blair Kane
Blair is just one of those young men who never though about competing and always seem to be at the top of his game. I have had the chance to get to know Blair at a personal level. You just have to know him to see how laid back he is. I remember Blair talking to me last summer about the fact that Rick wanted him to shoot competitively, he was unsure about that. Glad to see he said yes. Blair is also a bowhunter and a member of BANS.
Rick Comeau ( The Coach)
Rick is the top coach for Nova Scotia. He has a love for archery that many could never meet. Rick has his own archery shop, "Common Cross Archery", and is the chief instructor for coaches in NS. Rick is also a Bowhunting Instructor and a BANS Member. I'd say he loves archery, as he dedicates so much of his time to the sport.
As for the others on the team I have not had the chance to meet or get to know them at any level. That being said I'm sure they have arrived at this level by practicing and determination. These 6 archers and Rick Comeau , their coach are the ones who will represent this province to the rest of Canada. Good luck to them and all the athletes of will be our ambassadors at these games. May you all have a safe trip, a good time making many friends and memories. If the medals come home with you great, but the honor of representing NS at these games should be a dream come true.
On behalf of the Bowhunters Association of Nova Scotia we'd like to wish
GOOD LUCK and a safe trip to TEAM NOVA SCOTIA
