What part of the province are you from ?
There is probably an Archery club nearby. I would recommend joining a club, if possible or going to one of the many 3D or target shoots held almost every weekend. Lots of folks would see wha you are doing and offer suggestions.
Are you shooting compounds, with sights or not or traditional - longbow or recurve ?
The best advice for now is straight arrows shoot the best. Practice as much as you can.

Welcome redmaple. I'm unsure of the type of bow you shoot, but the tips I would offer you are basic ones
1 relax. shooting is a fun past time and sport. You should be enjoying it.
2 form, take the time to get good form. get your stance proper, feet shoulders width apart 90* to the target. Always come to anchor, making sure it's the same each time will ensure proper hand eye alignment.
3 make sure you have to proper equipment. The right arrows for the right bow. Mix matching arrows is one of the easiest ways to throw off shot placement.
4 bow tuning. A properly tuned bow will also help greatly with your consistency and shot placement By this I mean brace height and nocking point are set correctly.
5 Practice you should never practice too much. It is said to be better to practice more often than for long periods of time. This will help you not form bad habits which will be hard to correct.
6 distance , I would suggest starting at a shorter distance(5-8 or 8-10m depending on age and comfort). Do this until your are consistent, and comfortable, then move back a couple of steps.
7 Club membership, if your are interested and able check your local area for an archery club. There are about 20 in NS. At every club you will find someone who is willing to share tips and information with you. This and the fact you'll get to shot 3d at varying distances and skill levels will help improve your shooting skills. It takes time but it will come.
Hope some of this is of use to you. Good luck happy shooting.

Yes , practice practice practice, lots to be learned on shoot nights and the gang here! Stay away from the traditional stuff its like CRACK cant get away from it and always want more!!!! I havent seen my compound since october when I crossed over! Just a legal reminder if your not a certified bowhunter its illegal to shoot your bow even in your back yard , club shoots only at club events otherwise. Youll learn the reasoning behind that on your course, all about wildlife habit and all of NS. Have fun and stock up on arrows , your gonna need them!

Although "Technically" illegal, I do not believe anyone would be charged unless the legal distances are not followed, or their was a complaint.
