At the recent Federation Convention this year two of the hot topics came back to the forefront again.
#1 Crossbows : a motion was put forward to introduce them into the general open season.
Although I was not in the room during the discussion of this topic, I have heard that it was very close and just narrowly defeated.
#2 Baiting Deer: once again this topic has been brought to the forefront.
With the increase of reported CWD cases in North America, and the fact that it is now found in NY State and NJ. It was felt by some that baiting deer should be outlawed. This was also defeated.
These are to two hottest topics IMO and you can bet they will be back again and again.
BANS resolutions put forward;
#1 Chignecto Sanctuary
The resolution to try and have the sanctuary as a whole included in the zone 4 wildlife management area was shot down.
#2 Youth Age reduction.
Although it was amended due to the fact that firearms and regulated under the federal criminal code, the members at the table voted in favor of reducing the legal age to 10 for youth wishing to bow hunt for small game.
#3 Youth License Fee reductions
The members at the table voted in favor of reducing the license fees for dependent youths to $5.
**** Although these were voted on and excepted, they will still have to go before the Minister for final say as to weather or not they become law.
#4 our final resolution pertaining to license fees going directly to DNR was voted on and defeated.
It was bought to the attention of those at the table that this would be in vain due to the fact that DNR's budget would end up being reduced by an equivalent amount.
In all there were 24 resolution brought forward at the Federation convention this year. I suggest that those who are unaware of what their organizations do for them on a yearly bases should make a little time over the next year to go to some of the AGM's and the Spring Federation convention as an observer. We can make a difference,if were heard.
